Really Reading
As I've been taking my writing seriously, I've also been paying a lot more attention to my reading. Not just the subject and content, but the actual process and my involvement with it.
For years now I've been mostly casual, giving deep attention only to the most impressive works out there, such as Ghost Rider and, well, just that in a long long time. Recently, I've begun to read critically again. Some people would say that's odd, as I do almost everything critically. But really, I've used novels as escapes and not much else.
But now I'm busting my ass to glean every scrap of meaning, artifice and value from every page. I'm seeing each word as an opportunity to go right or wrong. And while I may not be enjoying the books quite as much, I'm sure loving the process!
